Why I’m choosing music videos

 Why I’m choosing music videos:

I decided to choose to do music videos, over short films, as I knew I was going to enjoy the whole film-making process a lot more. I had already done a short film in one of my prior films, and it took me a lot of time to construct, but I had not enjoyed it as much as I wanted to. I think producing a music promotion package will be more enjoyable and fun to do, as music is something that I listen to on a daily basis, as well as engage in — it’s something that I love and have a passion for.

Alongside my enjoyment of listening to music, I also like to listen to various artists from different genre’s, such as The Weeknd, BTS, Sam Smith, etc. Each genre of music has different expectations for MV’s, and expected colours or symbolism to occur — known as iconography. I enjoy watching my different artists MV’s because each of their videos contrast heavily, and it’s nice seeing how they take inspiration from other references, such as the The Weeknd’s most recent MV for ‘Out of Time’, which took inspiration from the movie, Lost in Translation (2003).

Making music videos would also be entertaining, as I think it’ll allow for more creative opportunities, through animation, etc. Watching music videos is also something that I partake in, and often when artists that I listen to, release music videos, I tend to always watch their videos, purely because I find enjoyment in it. For example, the Kpop genre has certain criteria’s with music videos: dances, singing, close-ups of each member/with another member. This is often seen in numerous MV’s, and as Kpop culture develops, dance moves become progressively more easier and less complex.
