Filming in the black studio

During one of our lessons, we filmed in the black studio room, and used the overhead lighting to create silhouettes and use creative colours to best portray the second character’s emotions. The lighting used was blue lighting, as heartbreak/sadness is conventionally associated with blue/dull lighting. I had my actor slowly move out of frame at the very end of their scene, to further convey their emotions, with the lyrics, and therefore linking it with the visuals.

The outcome was successful, although the actor did not have any other clothes besides his school uniform, it still fit in with the music video, and the supporting visuals. However, we did have to film several times over, with varied lighting changes, in order to see which outcome would ultimately fit best within the music video.

Filming at Botanical Gardens

For filming at the botanical gardens, we filmed on Friday, 9th of December, from 1.30 to around 5pm (given the time taken for us to walk to the areas that we were situated).

The areas we were able to film included:

1. Palm Valley (nearest to where we had entered)
2. Ginger Garden (specifically the waterfall)
3. Learning Forest & Gallop Extension (boardwalks)
4. Forest Discovery @OCBC Arboretum
4. Tanglin Gate Gardens (gazebo)

In terms of the production, we had to walk a good few km's before reaching our first area to film, Palm Valley, which was a large open area with lots of tall trees. However, as it was drizzling and there was some light rain, the ground was wet, and incredibly muddy, and therefore we had to tread very carefully. This was a safety hazard, as we had to cover the equipment in covered areas, and also film in the wet conditions, but this seemed to fit in with the whole production of my music video.

Despite the weather conditions, we were able to successfully film a lot of the intended production, without getting stopped or questioned by security, which was something we were worried about. For most of the locations we shot in, there was a small amount of people, around 2-3 persons, but nobody disrupting for the most part. Each of the shots which we had to do consisted of using the fisheye angle or using the normal lens. Although we brought a tripod along, all my filming was done freehand, and there was no need for the tripod in the end.

Furthermore, we had to walk along the trail of the gardens, but this was a tiring and demanding process, as we entered through the MRT station, which was furtherest out from the areas we were planning to shoot in, and therefore, we ended up shooting for 3-4 hours, over my expected time, due to how long we had to walk to each of the different locations.
